Ill Breaks Crew: What’s the concept behind the song?

Spoken Nerd: The concept of the song is basically a warning about the modern day false prophets that are so prevalent in the Church. These are men who contradict The Bible with their teachings and justify it through supposed signs and wonders. (See my Blog.)

Ill Breaks Crew: Why did you want to record a song about this topic?

Spoken Nerd: The song was originally recorded on an EP that I put out right after we released 24 Carrot Dreams. When I was touring that record I put together a band for the Nashville shows and Gary Hundley wrote a bass line that I felt brought the song to life so we recorded a remake of the song for the album. I was in a place of despair trying to find my place within The Church when I wrote the song. I had experienced a lot of “prophecy” that seemed to have an agenda and found myself and a lot of other folks around me hurt from “false words” and empty promises. This song is not to scare people away from the Church but it is to teach Christians to be weary of the type of culture that they create and to examine their motives. It is my hope that this song will draw believers closer to God and further away from the false sense of entitlement that the enemy has poisoned the Kool Aid with.

Ill Breaks Crew: What is the concept behind the video?

Spoken Nerd: For the video we thought it would be fun to dress up as LDS Missionaries and make a 007 sub-plot of fast action. The idea is that I am the False Prophet and Chad (MC GRIZ) is one of my followers who I have blind folded behind me while I rap. They always say the blind lead the blind. Sometimes the wolves lead the blind. In the first scene he passes a cup of coffee to me and I unknowingly drink it. (For those of you who don’t know the LDS faith prohibits the use of caffeine so if you go to one of their youth groups the kids drink Sprite instead of Coke.) For tricking me with his poison I go to war with him.

Ill Breaks Crew: Is there an aspect of your faith in Jesus Christ that comes out in the song or video? If so, what is it?

Spoken Nerd: I believe that there is an aspect of my faith in Jesus Christ that comes out in this song. I directly am speaking from my personal walk in the faith with this particular song. Jesus Christ is the source of all Truth and this song is inspired by God’s word.
